Queen drummer Roger Meddows Taylor was born on Tuesday, July 26, 1949 at the West Norfolk and King's Lynn Hospital in King's Lynn, Norfolk, to Winifred and Michael Taylor.
Roger was initially their rhythm guitarist, but he didn't enjoy this, and subsequently took over on drums, where he felt far more comfortable.
Roger's latest album, Electric Fire was released in 1998 - and to promote the album, he appeared on TFI Friday, a program on Channel 4 in the UK.

Within a year however, Taylor returned to the guard.

Taylor was active in Chicago politics as well, serving on the Mayor Busse's Vice Commission and acting as a witness in court cases and an arbiter in labor disputes.
In 1921 Taylor retired from active administration of the Commons, leaving that work to his daughter Lea, although he remained active in Commons concerns and issues such as Prohibition, public health, and the fate of the poor during the Depression for the rest of his life.

Andrew Cyrille, born in Brooklyn on November 10, 1939, studied with Philly Joe Jones in 1958 and then spent the first half of the 1960s studying in New York at Juilliard and the Hartnett School of Music.
In 1964 he formed what would prove to be an eleven-year association with Cecil Taylor, a gig that brought him new acclaim and established him in the vanguard of jazz drumming.
Since leaving Taylor's group, he has also worked with such top-flight peers as David Murray, Muhal Richard Abrams, Mal Waldron, Horace Tapscott, James Newton, and Oliver Lake, was the drummer on Billy Bang's A Tribute to Stuff Smith (Soul Note 121216), notable for being the last studio session of Sun Ra.

Taylor seemed to live in Prestige's studios during the second half of the 1950s, although he found time to lead his Wailers, visit Europe with Donald Byrd in 1958, gig and record with Miles Davis, and play with Thelonious Monk (including his acclaimed Town Hall concert) in 1959.
In 1963, Taylor moved to Europe where he spent most of the next 20 years (mostly living in France and Belgium), playing with Europeans and such Americans as Dexter Gordon and Johnny Griffin.
After returning to the U.S., Taylor resumed his freelancing, and in the early '90s he organized a new version of the Wailers which, during its short existence prior to his death, temporarily filled the gap left by the end of the Jazz Messengers.
