Quite simply, who cares whether Byrne was genial or misanthropic; the truth is that he's done nothing of note since the first GENERATIONS series, and that ought to be the one and only litmus test of whether he ought to be included in any discussion of what's currently happening in comics.
John Byrne and the present went their separate ways long ago; as I am more chiefly interested in the latter, debate on the former is a waste of my present time.
Byrne's accomplishments with Claremont on X-Men is more than noteworthy and certainly has NEVER been eclipsed by any creative team on that series as everything since has been a retread of that seminal work, revisiting the themes and ideas that they explored as well as Cockrum's first run.
