Morton was the chairman of Republican National Committee between 1969 and 1971.
His brother, Thruston B. Morton, was also chairman of the Republican National Committee and served in the United States House of Representatives with him.

The papers document the work of Rogers Morton and his assistant, Timothy Austin, in advising the President in the period between February and April 1976.

When Rogers Morton was appointed to the White House staff on February 2, 1976, the White House stated that he would serve as Counsellor to the President with Cabinet rank responsible for providing advice on domestic and economic issues.
One of his responsibilities was to serve as principal White House liaison with the President Ford Committee (PFC) and the Republican National Committee (RNC).
Morton only held this post for a two-month period, however.

Two big swaths of land on the east side of Rogers were starting to be developed: both the Matthew Campbell Addition north of Grimes and the Dodds Addition south of Grimes were platted into house lots in the 1800s.
