Roland of Cremona - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Roland of Cremona joined the Dominican order at Bologna in 1219.
In 1231 he led a party of friars and priests to exhume from a cemetery the body of a man rumoured to have died a heretic.
This precipitate action led to protests from the consuls of Toulouse, and Roland left the city soon afterwards.

 olifant.html
The Song of Roland, the Chanson de Roland, as its name implies was an oral epic, a chanted narration, sung before audiences of soldiers and pilgrims, at courts and in market places, and handed down from generation to generation of such singers before being written down in England after the Norman Conquest.
Roland and Charlemagne are countered by the Moslem rulers, Marsile and Baligant.
Roland meanwhile, having smashed the Olifant and trying to do the same to his sword, Durendal, dying, hands his right glove up to God, the angels Gabriel and Michael taking it and his soul from him.

 History of Philosophy 39
While St. Thomas was teaching at the convent of St. James, several of his doctrines -- especially that of the unity of the substantial form in man -- aroused violent opposition among his confrères of the order of St. Dominic.
Of these Dominican opponents of St. Thomas the most prominent were Roland of Cremona, Richard Fitzacre, and Robert Kilwardby.
It was owing to the influence of Kilwardby, who was archbishop of Canterbury, that the masters of the university of Oxford carried their opposition to Thomism so far as to censure as dangerous the denial of the rationes seminales and the affirmation of the unity of the substantial form in man. This was in 1277.

Veritas - Magnificat anima mea Dominum
He is so well known that we need not go into greater detail about him.
Albert and Thomas so completely dominated this period that other outstanding theologians, such as Roland of Cremona who died in 1259, Robert Kilwardby who died in 1280, Hugh of St. Cher who died in 1263 and others of their caliber are almost forgotten.
This tradition continued on into the next century with men who are too numerous to mention, although none of them are shining lights in the intellectual history of Europe.
