Rolls-Royce Avon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rolls-Royce Avon turbojet was developed by Cyril Lovesey who had previously been in charge of Merlin development at Rolls-Royce.
The Avon powered a range of aircraft including the de Havilland Comet, de Havilland Sea Vixen, English Electric Canberra, English Electric Lightning, Fairey Delta, Hawker Hunter, Sud-Aviation Caravelle, Supermarine Swift, Vickers Valiant, Dassault Mystère IV, SAAB A32 Lansen and SAAB Draken.
In the US, the Avon was used to power the vertical landing Ryan X-13 Vertijet aircraft (in RA.28-49 form) and the Martin B-57.

 Red Roo/Hasegawa 1/48 Avon Sabre
The 30mm Aden cannon was chosen for the new armament, and the Rolls-Royce Avon RA-7 engine became the new powerplant, with an increase from the 6,100 lbs of thrust of the G.E. J-47 to 7,500 lbs of thrust with the Avon.
The change in powerplant required a redesign of the Sabre's fuselage to cater to the increased airflow requirement of the Avon, and to the fact that the engine was 500 lbs lighter than the J-47, requiring that it be re-positioned further aft.
Without photos of the cockpit of the Avon Sabre, I am not sure I actually got this right, but I also know there is a small chance anyone here in North America will know enough about the Australian version to catch this when looking at the model.

 Vickers Valiant
Initial Valiant production aircraft featured four Rolls-Royce Avon 201 turbojet engines, with 4,301 kilograms (9,500 pounds) thrust each.
The Type 674 was powered by Avon RA.14 engines with the same 4,310 kilograms (9,500 pounds) thrust each as the earlier Avon 201, while the Type 706 was powered by Avon RA.28 204 or 205 engines with 4,760 kilograms (10,500 pounds) thrust each, longer tailpipes, and water-methanol injection for takeoff boost power.
However, the booster rockets were deemed unnecessary, due to the availability of more powerful Avon variants, as well as fear of accidents if one booster rocket failed on takeoff, resulting in asymmetric thrust.

 The SAAB 35 Draken
It was originally powered by a non-afterburning Svenska Flygmotor RM5A engine, a copy of the Avon Mark 21 and the same engine used to power the SAAB 32 Lansen, but the prototype was later reengined with a more powerful nonafterburning Avon Mark 43 engine, one of six provided by Rolls Royce.
The second prototype, with a still more powerful Avon Mark 46 engine, had performed its first flight in March 1956, but it had bellied in a week before the accident that laid up the first prototype, and for the moment the program was dead in the water as far as flight tests were concerned.

With the noise levels associated with an airport industrial area, identifying noise from a specific source - say, a testing facility for aero-derivative gas turbines - could be considered a formidable task.
After initial analysis, ATCO identified the primary external noise contributors as the walls of the test cell, the exhaust/ventilation openings, the air intake system and the combustion exhaust.
