  CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Louis XIV
Louis XIV was particularly fond of taking a hand in doctrinal matters; and those who surrounded him ended by believing that the king could supervise the Church and supply it with information on religious questions.
Presently, in December, 1667, nineteen bishops wrote to the king that the appointment of such a commission by the pope was contrary to the Gallican liberties.
Lastly, at the end of his reign, Louis ordered a new inquiry into the causes and the persistence of the heresy, and decreed, by the declaration of 8 March, 1715, that all Protestants who had continued to reside in the kingdom since 1685 were liable to the penalties of relapsed heretics unless they became Catholics.

As Michael Rose has pointed out in his study of seminary practices, the psychological tests required of candidates for the priesthood seem incapable of identifying pedophiles but are quite efficient in identifying the theologically orthodox, who are then defined as “rigid,” one of the signs of their rigidity being precisely their disapproval of homosexuality.

Roman Catholic? (This Rock: April 1993)
His words are: "Wheresoever the bishop shall appear, there let the people be, even as where Jesus may be, there is the Catholic Church." By the beginning of the third century the meaning of the term "Catholic" as applied to the Church had become clearly established.
When the Catholic princes proposed certain moderate conditions for the settling of religious difficulties, the Lutherans solemnly protested against them, and the word "Protestant" was born of the denial of freedom and conscience.
As for the use of the term "Catholic" to indicate comprehensiveness, it is thoroughly dishonest to give the impression that this is the sense in which it was used by Ignatius of Antioch, Cyril of Jerusalem, or Augustine of Hippo.

LOUIS — Archbishop-elect Raymond Burke, like his predecessor in the St. Louis Archdiocese, Justin Rigali, is a prayerful man who is faithful to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, archdiocesan leaders said.
Several other hardline stands have put Burke in the same ideological camp as Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Neb., who, in 1996, threatened to excommunicate Catholics who belonged to groups that he considered perilous to the faith.
Bishop Joseph Naumann, the St. Louis Archdiocese's interim administrator, said Burke is a humble and unpretentious man, who is forthright and strong in his beliefs.
