Paula Blanchard, for a term expiring December 31, 2003) - Judge Gribbs retired in January 2001 from the Court of Appeals of Michigan after a 46-year career in law which began as an Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor in 1956.
He was the Sheriff of Wayne County, 1968-1969; Mayor of Detroit, 1970-1974; Judge of the 3rd Judicial Circuit (Wayne County) from January 1975 to December 1982.
Judge Gribbs was elected to the Court of Appeals in 1982, serving until January 1, 2001.

As far as I’m concerned one of the best proofs that Roman Gribbs was a highly intelligent man was that he appointed me as head of a city department.
Roman Gribbs was simply the wrong man at the wrong time.

We disagree with plaintiff s contention that the issue of what an employer knew or should have known about an employee's dangerous propensities is a question of fact for the jury.

On Tuesday, March 9th, the Michigan Gaming Control Board adopted resolutions recognizing and acknowledging the contributions of two of its former members (Roman Gribbs and Rich Davis) and Assistant Attorney General Eric Eggan who had been in charge of the casino control division since the Board's inception in 1996.
The terms of service for both Roman Gribbs and Rich Davis expired at the end of 2003.
Roman Gribbs, of course, has been a key figure in this state in many roles dating all the way back to 1956.

Therefore, in addition to finding that the evidence here supports a claim of simple fraud, we also find that defendant had a duty in this case to disclose the subsequently acquired information of defendant’s financial position in 1992, which clearly rendered untrue any implications from the 1991 figures.

Decision: An appeals court reversed the trial court's decision to remove Baby Maranda from the custody of her mother because she had put the child in day care; the case went back to the lower court for a retrial and Baby Maranda went back to her mother.
On November 7, 1995, Judge Roman S. Gribbs ruled: "A court may not change the established custodial environment of a child unless clear and convincing evidence is presented that it is in the best interest of the child."
Finally, Gribbs pointed out that "the evidence does not support the trial court's judgment that defendant's proposed, but untested, plans for the child's care would be better" than the mother's.

"The question of whether there should be a total ban on smoking in restaurants must be left to the Legislature," Court of Appeals Judges Michael Kelly and Roman Gribbs wrote in a decision released Wednesday.
Gribbs retired from the appeals court this year.
The much-anticipated decision comes in response to an appeal filed by the City of Marquette after the Michigan Restaurant Association, the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and several Marquette restaurants won a circuit court case overturning the portion of a Marquette ordinance that banned smoking in restaurants.

The court upheld Douglas James Anderson's conviction of assault with intent to commit murder in a ruling signed by judges David Sawyer, Roman Gribbs and Gary McDonald.
The 32-year-old Anderson is serving 25 to 50 years in prison for beating Muriel Joyce Brown with a motorcycle helmet, then smashing her head on the asphalt in the Carter's Food Store parking lot in Cadillac on Sept. 26, 1997.
