Roman eating and drinking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The eating and drinking habits of the Romans changed over the long (over 1000 years) duration of their ancient civilization.
These habits were affected by the influence of Greek culture, the political changes from kingdom to republic to empire, and the enormous expansion of the empire which brought many new culinary habits and cooking techniques from the provinces.
The usual drink was mulsum, a mixture of wine and honey.

 Drinking culture -
Drinking is documented in the Hebrew and Christian Bibles, Greek literature as old as Homer, and Confucius' Analects.
Binge drinking is sometimes defined as drinking alcohol solely for the purpose of intoxication, although it is quite common for binge drinking to apply to a social situation, creating some overlap in social and binge drinking.
Some common reasons for this propensity for binge drinking is that many college students are living on their own for the first time, free of parental supervision, among peers, especially those of the opposite sex.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist
First of all the whole structure of the discourse of promise demands a literal interpretation of the words: "eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood".
Consequently, eating and drinking are to be understood of the actual partaking of Christ in person, hence literally.
Paul (1 Corinthians 11:27, 29) attaches the same guilt "of the body and the blood of the Lord" to the unworthy "eating or drinking", understood in a disjunctive sense, as he does to "eating and drinking", understood in a copulative sense.

The pizza (see also next page) is a Neapolitan symbol worshipped by the city’s inhabitants, alongside San Gennaro and Maradona, and it’s true that they are not made quite as well anywhere else.
A genuine Neapolitan pizza has a chewy rather than a crunchy crust, and the thinner, Roman version is pretty much sacrilege here.
A pizza is often eaten as a whole meal on its own, whereas with other meals the norm is to have a first course (primo) often pasta or soup) followed by a main course (secondo), usually just a simple meat dish.

If this is your opinion, you are in for a rather distressing study, for the issue of eating, drinking, and being merry is precisely that which the Pharisees raise with Jesus and His disciples.
The disturbing fact is that Jesus is the one who is eating, drinking, and being merry, and the Pharisees are miffed because of it.
