Romancing the Stone: (Alan Silvestri) It's difficult to imagine today, but there was a time in 1983 when director Robert Zemeckis couldn't find a composer to pair up with.
Even as dated as it is, Romancing the Stone may appeal to Silvestri completists, but Varèse Sarabande would do significantly better pursuing a long-awaited release of the next score in the collaboration, Back to the Future.

To polish the stone the entire sculpture is first heated by direct immersion in a fire, or by building a fire in an oil drum and wheeling the sculpture around it to distribute the heat evenly.
It is the Zen of the stone that it is both strong and fragile.
While all the stone types are hard enough that they can – unless cracked – withstand the coldest temperatures, the highly polished surfaces of a sculpture can scratch, while a hard fall can cause chips on thin edges.

Before the Rosetta Stone was found by Napoleon's army in 1799, Ptolemy's ploys were understandably forgotten, yet he wasn't the only pharaoh whose feats were unknown: Even the legacy of Ramses, builder of the great temple at Karnak, had sunk into hieroglyphic obscurity.
One of many stelae -- stone markers -- produced as political propaganda in the year 196 B.C., it advertised the pharaoh's generosity to three key constituencies -- the Greek government, the Egyptian people and the otherworldly gods -- each of whom used a different script.
The temple where the stone rested fell to ruin, and the granite was recycled in a citadel in the town of Rosetta until the French invaded Egypt in 1798, and, to keep the British Navy at bay, decided to remodel.

Romancing The Stone - Music from the Movies
Romancing The Stone was 20th Century Fox's answer to the action/adventure movie in the Indiana Jones vein without trying to be like Indiana Jones (The Temple Of Doom was released the same year) and who better than to achieve this would be a young Spielberg protégé Robert Zemeckis.
In order to lessen the comparison between the Indiana Jones films and what Zemeckis was trying to achieve in Romancing The Stone the decision was made not to have a full blown orchestral score - rather the producers wanted something a little bit upbeat and jazzy but with an orchestral base.
Romancing The Stone is an important score for two reasons: firstly it was Alan Silvestri's breakthrough score (and even though they did not want a full orchestra Robert Zemeckis certainly got that on their next outing together!) and secondly because it has been much requested for as long as I can remember.

Inch by inch, technicians removed a layer of lacquer they determined was applied some time in the past 50 to 100 years, when many collectors found it fashionable to cover their pieces with a glossy sheen.
