Guitar Romantic, the band’s tightly-wound 10-song debut is very accessible punk brimming with Chuck Berry guitar licks (Thorn in Roses) and Clash-like vocals (Modern Kicks).
Still, this is a raucous debut from a band with a sense of history and a love for rock ’n‘ roll.

Cokemachineglow.com - The Exploding Hearts: Guitar Romantic
As harbingers go, this one is pretty hideous, but also remarkably close to what you actually get from the product: cheese-filled power-pop/punk from a band with members that want to look and sound like the bands they grew up loving.
Like any passing fad, the rushed crap that is used to flood the bandwagon can make even the most devoted fan sick of anything that even resembles the watered down useless tripe that will constantly appear.
The Exploding Hearts, on the other hand, are able to succeed where most else fail -tongue placed firmly in cheek, Guitar Romantic removes any trace of "me, too!" from their sound and end up with ten tracks that are fun as they are refreshing.

Guitar Romantic is an amazingly raw and melodic debut, fully realized and original despite the obvious debt to the punk past.
Maybe it is the love and authenticity that they pour into the worship, the raw production that smashes the guitars and bass into a whirling mess of tuneful noise, or the wonderfully tough but tender vocals.

 Disclaimer Music Review Archive: E
Apparently recorded entirely at someone's house, Forever Again plows through short, folky tunes that are bolstered by fuzzy guitars and plainspoken, lovesick lyrics ("Will you be the same person who left before the fall?/ I did love you then, but when you were gone, I hurt" they sing in "Waiting All Day").
The elements on this album are all familiar- drum parts that slowly blossom from relaxed to martial and back again, echoey guitars that drizzle and rage in equal measure- but the band wields them in a way that's more tuneful and emotional than you'd think possible.
Whereas GYBE would approach such subject matter with an unwaveringly dismal series of crescendoes, Explosions in the Sky makes the experience doubly tragic by infusing their song with periods of naive hope and optimism, along with the expected panic and claustrophobia, before hitting a messy, desperate end that will leave you shattered.
