Atkinson, 65, had made a successful career as a media commentator, having been manager of a number of clubs, most famously Manchester United, West Bromwich Albion and Atletico Madrid.

i was in the position of personally knowing ron in the mid 70s when he was cambridge utd manager.
ron is NOT a racist, he did make a couple of silly remarks yes, but hand on heart haven't we all, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
personally i think its a generational thing with ron as opposed to actual malice but i do think the north of england has a bad enough reputation for racism without the appointment of a percieved racist as one of the most high profile positions in the north east.
