		Ron Irwin, Federal Minister of Indian Affairs, is meeting with Chief Bernard Ominayak of the Lubicon Cree Indians.
		Irwin was interviewed by CFRN Eyewitness News during a meeting today with northern Alberta Indian Chiefs which was held here in Edmonton.
		Ron, for the people, I'm sure you're going to get a lot of calls about this over the next little while, maybe you could point out to the holy taxpayers that phone up complaining about what it's going to cost that there is in fact a million dollars a day being extracted from Lubicon territory.

	AKLegislature.com: Legislature pays fees for aide's ethics breach
		Irwin was cited by the Senate Subcommittee of the Select Committee on Legislative Ethics for calling a news conference during the election to blast a speech by then-gubernatorial candidate Fran Ulmer.
		Irwin had sent an e-mail on Sept. 4 to announce a press conference with majority lawmakers to respond to a campaign speech by Ulmer, a Democrat.
		Irwin has said previously that he would appeal the ethics ruling in state court, but said Tuesday he was unsure whether he will pursue the case.

		Ron Irwin, the minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, sent out a statement last week saying he won't seek re-election as MP for Sault Ste.
		Irwin was first elected to the House of Commons in 1980, was re-elected in 1993 and appointed to Chrétien's first cabinet.

		Sparks Fire Chief Ron Irwin is retiring July 17 after 38 years with the department, city officials said Wednesday.
		Irwin, a 60-year-old Sparks native, joined the department as a firefighter in 1962, following in the footsteps of his father, John Irwin, who was assistant chief of the Sparks department for 20 years before leaving to become the first chief of the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.
		Irwin advanced to be a fire apparatus operator in 1964 and to captain in 1968.

		Irwin reportedly told the Chiefs of Treaty 8 that any Indian Affairs officials involved in the Laboucan family initiative would be out of a job.
		Irwin is facing "internal opposition" to accepting Lubicon negotiation proposals -- not terribly surprising in light of the foregoing.
		While federal Indian Affairs Minister Ron Irwin seems anxious to settle the 55-year old Lubicon claim and the chief is working on a "proposal" for impending negotiations, 100 band members announced late last month that they intend to desert the Lubicons in favour of the neighbouring Woodland Cree band.

		Because Anawak is Irwin's parliamentary secretary in addition to being the MP for Nunatsiaq, he would have been a suitable stand-in for the federal minister, Kivallivik MLA Kevin O'Brien said.
