Ron MacLean is best known as the straight man on Coach’s Corner, the listener and, some might argue, the voice of reason that saves Don Cherry from getting a puck in the head.
Ron’s broadcasting career began in 1978 when he took over a 16-month part-time position at a radio station in Red Deer, Alberta.
MacLean’s first love is hockey, which led him to Toronto in 1986 and Molson Hockey Night in Canada on CBC.

Ronald Joseph MacLean (born April 12, 1960, in Zweibrücken, Germany) is a Canadian sportscaster for the CBC who is best known as the host of Hockey Night in Canada.
MacLean's father was stationed in Germany as a communications officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force when MacLean was born, but 14 months later the family moved back to Canada, and he grew up in Chester, Nova Scotia, and Red Deer, Alberta.
MacLean was named an Honorary Colonel for the 1 Air Movements Squadron at 17 Wing Winnipeg of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Ron was asking for a salary of $600,000/year, pretty steep if you asked me. I don't know how they are going to find somebody to take his place...there's nobody that can banter with Don Cherry like Ron MacLean.
The Globe and Mail, citing unnamed sources, is reporting this morning that MacLean and CBC Television have a tentative four-year deal that would pay MacLean about $450,000 a year.

I honestly can't see Ron going to ESPN, Fox, etc as they probably wouldn't know who he is really as he has only been on HNIC, maybe something like local Leafs coverage by Global or CKVR but they probably can't afford his salary.
That's the nice thing about Maclean is that he was unbaised, unlike Cherry (who seems to favour the TML but doesn't let you know explicitly) and never indicated that he rooted for the TML although deep down I think he likes them or the CFs.
