Paperback Reader : Review of Witchblade #93 by Chris Partin
Sure, you’ve noticed Ron Marz’s name on the cover and thought, “Hey, he use to write Green Lantern.” Or, “Isn’t he one of those CrossGen guys?” Or even, “Man, where has he been?” If you’re asking the last question you’re obviously not paying much attention these days, but we’ll let that slide for now.
Who knows, but Ron Marz is a great writer and he’s doing everything in his ability to provide readers with some of the best stories he’s ever written.
Marz has written some great stories over his career and what he is doing in Witchblade eclipses all of those.

Ron Marz has always handled the idea of power vs. responsibility well; here he’s constructed an intelligent book with an appealing lead character that struggles with real issues.
Marz has also imbued the book with an air of romantic entanglement that’s hard to sustain in more mainstream titles.
Another treatise on power and the individual by Ron Marz, Scion tells the story of Ethan, a young noble whose family, the Herons, have held conflict with the rival Ravens for generations.

Thankfully, Marz only lasted about a year on Snore (which has since passed to the hands of Roy Thomas and, thankfully, on to Warren Ellis and now William Messner-Loebs), for it was at this time that Marz was called to give Green Lantern...The Treatment.
Marz then has a pointless issue where Hal attempts to bring Coast City back with his ring, only to be told by the Guardians "What's done is done." Which is actually the last sensible thing anyone does in this book to the present day.
Apparently, Ron Marz was given an outline for the Emerald Twaddle storyline.

Ron Marz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marz reported receiving numerous hate letters and death threats [1] [2].
He recently returned to Green Lantern to pen the final arc of the book's second volume; a fitting send-off for Kyle Rayner, who is not the focus of the current volume (written by Geoff Johns and focusing on the previous ring-bearer, Hal Jordan).
Having been a lifelong fan of the character, Ron was the brain behind Moonstone Books' 2006 Annual featuring The Phantom, and was responsible for getting writers Chuck Dixon, Mike Bullock, Tony Bedard and Rafael Nieves participate with chapters for the book.

Ron Marz et al - Batman/Tarzan: Claws of the Catwoman
I had seen his work before, on such things as Marvel's Silver Surfer and DC's Green Lantern, and had never become sufficiently enthused to make a regular subscription to any of the comics he was writing monthly in the 1990s.
These quotes illustrate Marz's appreciation of the fundamental philosophical differences between Batman and Tarzan, which continues through the rest of the story and makes this more memorable than several of the unlikely crossovers of other franchise characters that I've seen in the past.

It's often remarked that the artists at CrossGen grow by leaps and bounds once they join the company, but rarely is the spotlight shone on the writers that have been amassed by the Florida based company.
Marz has made a great effort to expand his creative horizons with "The Path" and the exploration of spiritualism is a way he's doing just that.
But it was one of the real focal points of 'The Path.' I was really drawn to the idea of the main character having his entire belief system shattered, of having this man of god be forced into being a man of war.

 Review: Witchblade #88
Marz has proven himself as a more-than-capable writer in the past and is responsible for the only interesting Green Lantern stories in the past three decades, so he at least warrants a tryout.
Marz has proven himself on Green Lantern and a variety of DC books in years past, and he also did a lot of good work at Crossgen (which is sorely missed).
However, his work in Witchblade is stagnant: the plot reads like any other generic police melodrama; the moral and social questions are addressed in the over-acted style of an after-school special; and nothing really happens — the characters go through the motions and have as little interest in their lives as we do.

Writer Ron Marz and penciler Jim Cheung--together with inker Mark Morales and colorist Jason Keith--set out to salute the legendary Hal Foster and his classic creation Prince Valiant...and boy, did they knock this one out of the park!
Designed as an homage to the Sunday newspaper strips (which ran from 1937 to 1971), this stand-alone issue gives a nod not only to Foster's lush artwork, but also to his innovative use of detailed images paired with blocks of texts.
Marz was always a huge fan of the Valiant strip, and decided that he and Cheung's final issue of SCION would be the perfect place to deliver this personal homage.

Florida-based writer Ron Marz began his writing career as a journalist but traded in his press badge for comic-book writing in 1990 when he determined that it was more fun to make up stories than report them.

The funny comments are from Larson who repeats 90% of his dribble for all contestants and has no idea what CrossGen characters are supposed to look like.
"In this talent contest, the audience decides who moves on to subsequent rounds, and it doesn't matter who Joe Quesada's favorite is, or how much Ron Marz wants to work with one contestant, or even how much Jamie Rich hates someone's art--ultimately the Comic Book Idol will be the people's choice," stated J.
