Wood also found the time to issue a string of solo releases during the mid-'70s: 1974's I've Got My Own Album to Do, 1975's Now Look, and a collaboration with ex-Faces bandmate Ronnie Lane, 1976's Mahoney's Last Stand, but this era of Wood's career is best-remembered for his enlistment into the Rolling Stones.
Wood has continued to issue solo recordings throughout the '90s and beyond (1992's Slide on This, 1994's Slide on Live: Plugged in and Standing, plus a pair in 2002, Not for Beginners and Live at Electric Ladyland).

Guitarist Ron Wood lost a chance to join the Rolling Stones in 1969 because he missed a phone call.
Other names were mooted, including Ronnie Wood, a genial twenty-one-year-old smoker and drinker with a great laugh, pinprick eyes, and the right hair, fl and scruffy like crow feathers.
Under this scenario, Ronnie Lane's failure to tell Ron Wood about the first phone call until "five years later" would have been of no real consequence, which might explain why Ron Wood doesn't bear a permanent grudge against his former bandmate for selfishly screwing him out of the opportunity of a lifetime.

Ron Wood in rehab but will tour with Stones - Boston.com
Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood checked into a London rehabilitation clinic this week for treatment of alcohol abuse, but he will join the band for the start of its European tour next month as planned, a spokeswoman said on Friday.
She confirmed reports that Wood, 59, had checked into an alcohol rehabilitation facility in South London this week but insisted he would be on stage and ready to perform with the band for the opening show in Milan.
Wood, who has long battled drinking problems and was in rehab last year, was reportedly with Richards, 62, and their wives on vacation in Fiji in late April when Richards suffered a head injury that forced the Stones to postpone the first 15 dates of their European tour.

 Rod Stewart/The Faces
Strangely, Wood's slide guitar leads are better on this than on the later debut Faces album, as on the odd, lengthy cover of "Street Fightin' Man." Although Rod's crazy experimentation often works and there are hints of his later, full-blown 70s sound, the record never really takes off.
Wood, having only recently served as Jeff Beck's bass player, had discovered the slide guitar but couldn't quite figure out what to do with it, with disastrous results (Dylan's "Wicked Messenger"; the bluesy, out-of-control "Around The Plynth").
What a blast: now that Ron Wood been on the road for a million years, he's able to tear through his old Faces and solo standards with the kind of effortless, ragged self-confidence you expect from a real master.
