  Ronald Fraser Papers
British diplomat and author, Sir (Arthur) Ronald Fraser was born 3 November 1888 to John and Louise Fraser.
Fraser died 12 September 1974 at the age of 85.
Fraser's typed notes pertain to the trial of two youths accused of assassinating Walter Edward Guinness Moyne, Minister of State in Cairo, in November 1944.

 The Lost Club
They are illumined by Fraser's deeply-held conviction that there is an order of reality superior to our familiar daily existence, and that this is infinitely wondrous and gracious: a vision he had in common with better-known writers of the fantastic such as Arthur Machen and Algernon Blackwood.
Fraser's inspiration is drawn to some extent from Chinese spirituality, both Taoist and Buddhist, but this is interpreted through very English characters and settings, so that his books are by no means merely studies in evangelising orientalism.
Ronald Fraser's work does not earn a reference in any major study of this century's English literature, no matter how exhaustive: neither does it appear n many studies of the fantastic in literature, though in a few he merits a bare paragraph of two.

Tajos: The Story of a Village on the Costa del Sol (Ronald Fraser)
Tajos is a portrait of an Andalusian mountain village, based on Ronald Fraser's experiences there from the late 1950s through to the early 1970s.
Looking backwards, the shadow of the Spanish Civil War (the subject of Fraser's oral history Blood of Spain) still hung over the village, especially for the older members of the community; looking forwards, the dramatic changes brought by tourism and a strengthening economy were clearly being felt but had not yet transformed the village.
Ronald Fraser may have written for outsiders, for anthropologists and travellers, but I suspect one of the biggest audiences for his work now will be Spaniards trying to understand the lives of their parents and grandparents.

A purveyor of priggish military and law-enforcement types, British actor Ronald Fraser began his film and TV career in 1954 as a bit actor, then graduated to supporting roles.
On occasion, Fraser was allowed to play a compassionate human being, but for the most part he was the personification of the "nasty little nit." Some of his larger film appearances are in The Sundowners (1960), The Best of Enemies (1961), Killing of Sister George (1968) and The Bed Sitting Room (1969).
American audiences are probably most familiar with Ronald Fraser's performance as Sergeant Watson, one of the gutsier members of Jimmy Stewart's ill-fated airplane crew in Flight of the Phoenix (1965).

Research materials (6 boxes of 88 taped interviews and transcripts) collected by Ronald Fraser for his books In Hiding: the life of Manuel Cortes (1972) and The Pueblo: a mountain village on the Costa del Sol (1973).
Ronald Fraser (b.1930) is a leading historian of twentieth-century Spain, using oral history techniques to document the experience of the Spanish Civil War and later changes in Spanish society.
In Hiding is based on interviews with the last socialist mayor of Mijas, who survived thirty years in hiding from the Franco regime, and with his wife and daughter; The Pueblo describes the changes that have affected Mijas during the tourist development of the Costa del Sol, based on interviews with villagers.

I am in the process of mapping the Fraser genealogical tree, a daunting task considering the number of different Fraser family's there are.
If you have any information regarding descendants from this Fraser Family, please send me an e-mail.
My ultimate plan is to publish the family tree and publish a Fraser Family newsletter, which I will send to each relative that participates - during Christmas 2002.

War on Drugs - Dr. Ronald Fraser
Fraser: Real drug war to be fought and won in our treatment centers
The gap separating what individual American citizens need from what they are getting can be closed only if policy makers in Washington honestly admit the so-called war can be won only by building treatment centers here at home to help people reclaim their private lives, not by arming military units in South America.
Ronald Fraser writes on public policy issues for the DKT Liberty Project, a Washington-based nonprofit, civil liberties research organization.

Blood of Spain: An Oral History of the Spanish Civil War (Ronald Fraser)
The result captures something of how the war affected those caught up in it and what they felt and thought — some individuals are followed throughout the war — but individual accounts are also grouped so as to place key events and themes within a broader perspective.
Rather than trying to cover the whole country, Fraser concentrates on particular areas: Madrid, Catalonia and Barcelona, Seville and Andalusia, Asturias/Vizcaya, and Old Castile.
Otherwise, Blood of Spain covers the whole sweep of the war, from the first uprising in July 1936 through to the end at Alicante and the fate of the the conquered (and the conquerors) in the immediate aftermath of the war.

The film catalogs and chronicles, after the war begins, the characters [diplomats, literary types, spies, penniless royalty, gays, lesbians] that cross and re-cross their path as they flee before the advancing Germany armies to Athens and then to Cairo.
"It isn't a lark," Guy tells Harriet early on, "but it is an adventure." Fortunes of War is populated by colorful characters, most notably the pitiable and decidedly untrustworthy Prince Yakimov (Ronald Pickup), and the dashing young soldier Simon Boulderstone (Rupert Graves of The Forsythe Saga and A Room with a View).
There is plenty of intrigue, betrayals, domestic melodrama, and emotional separations and reunions to propel this nearly seven-hour production to its powerful conclusion.
