Susilo played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men' singles, defeating number 1 seed Lin Dan of China and Björn Joppien of Germany in the first two rounds.
In the quarterfinals, Susilo was defeated by Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand 15-10, 15-1.

to say that susilo commanded the whole game would be an over-statement of course, but susilo was leading the game points most of the time.
Being the underdog, susilo, of cuz is under way much less pressure than Lin dan.
At one point, susilo, in the true spirit of Olympic sporting event, gave a service to Lin dan by admitting and compromising on an argued ball(it hit the outline bold line of the 'out line' and lin dan raised it to the umpire but susilo gave him the service almost immediately).
