 | | Born in London in 1942, the son of fellow-saxophonist Jimmy Skidmore, Alan Skidmore began playing professionally in 1958 with dance orchestras and pop bands, but by 1964 he was part of Alexis Korner’s Blues Incorporated, later recording with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. |
 | | A stint with Ronnie Scott’s quintet followed, and by 1969, Skidmore was leading his own band featuring Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Harry Miller and Tony Oxley. |
 | | Work with Georgie Fame, Mike Westbrook, Chris McGregor, Mike Gibbs, Elvin Jones, the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band and many others followed, and from 1981—84, Skidmore was the guest soloist with the WDR Orchestra in Cologne. |
