Schell recalls that the first show didn’t go very well because he was so nervous, but the second show was a smash and they were signed for five months.

Veteran comedian Ronnie Schell recalls the days when he sharpened his gags for "Kampus Kapers" at San Francisco State, then took his act to the Purple Onion -- where he quickly bombed.
Most of the old comics are pals of Schell's, but he can't hit up the same acts every year for the gig, a benefit for the school's department of athletics.
