The triad formed using the C note as the root would consist of C (the root note of the scale), E (the third note of the scale) and G (the fifth).
Each note has a function within the chord, the note the chord is built on is called the root of the chord, the second note a third above it is called the third of the chord, and the third note a third above the second note is called the fifth of the chord.
The strongest form of motion has root movement by fifth, which is the characteristic sound used as finality in most music of the baroque and classical periods, and is also exploited to modulate a piece of music into a different key.

The root note assigning channel detector 24 operates to detect a channel which is assigned with a depressed key of the lower keyboard having the detected root note name, and comprises a coincidence detection circuit 240.
The subordinate note assigning channel detectors 25-1 through 25-7 operates to detect channel which are assigned with depressed keys of the lower keyboard corresponding to the respective subordinates notes or intervals and are constituted by a coincidence detection circuit 250 and a code converting circuit 251.
The root note signal RN read out from the chord root name encoder 23 is applied to one input of the coincidence detector 240 of the root note assigning channel detector 24 and to the code converters 251 of each one of the subordinate tone assigning channel detectors 25-1 through 25-7.

An Introduction To Chords   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
A major chord consists of a 'root' (the note on which the chord is based, usually also the lowest note of the chord), the note a 'major third' (four half-steps) higher than the root, and the note a 'minor third' (three half- steps) higher than the second note.
Note that the 6th note of the major scale is the tonic of the relative minor.
Note that the difference between Gmaj7 and G7 is that the "seventh" we add in G7 is a half-step lower than it is in Gmaj7.

Note that the top and bottom rows are identical -- that's where the repetition begins -- every 12th fret.
Just a reminder that that note is really the 5th note of the "regular" major scale, but because the pentatonic skips the 4th and 7th notes, we call it Pattern 4.
This pattern also returns us to the root note on the E strings, which means we have moved up one whole octave, or 12 frets, from root to root.

For example, we might play this: (all notes are 8th notes) E A E A E G----------------------------------------------------- D----------------------------------------------------- A--------------0--0--0-----------------0--0--0-------- E--0--0--0--4-----------4--0--0--0--4-----------4--0-- In this figure, we play the note G# (a half-step below the A) as a transition between the E and the A. Such a note is called a leading tone, or passing tone.
Note the use of the octaves on the E and G roots.
Observe how the root note is played, but never on the first beat of the measure: in the verse, the bass is resting, while in the chorus either the previous root is tied over, or a leading tone is played on the first note.

Inversion (music) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chords of four notes or more, however, can be in their third inversion: the third inversion of a dominant seventh in C major, for example (made up of the notes G, B, D and F) has the seventh, F, in the bass.
A written note C with no digits stands for C 5 3, which is a root position C major triad (given a key signature that does not alter E or G), as G and E are a fifth and third above this note.
An interval is inverted by raising or lowering either of the notes the necessary number of octaves, so that both retain their names (pitch class) and the one which was higher is now lower and vice versa, changing the perspective or relation between the pitch classes.

I think that you would, because if you played one of each note and the root on top of it, you would be doubling the root.
The position of the remainder notes of the triad can change making a different chord "disposition", but it doesn't change the chord cualification, that is determined by the bass note.
Interpreting 'interval' to mean distance, then yes, although the distance between a note and itself, referred to as a unison interval, is a formal defintion as well.

 modes2scales
To standardize music so musicians from one area could play with musicians of another area, a standard note tuning was instituted, and the C Major scale was assigned as the common Major scale, and would be harmonious to Major and minor compositions written with C Major scale notes.
Likewise if a composition passage was written with C Major notes but with an E root, it would be an Eminor7b6b9 scale, and would therefore be harmonic to everything else in the composition written from C Major notes under that old standard.
So the tuning standard we use today does not have pure harmonious notes and the notes are off harmony slightly, but we do not recognize it because our ears are attuned to the tuning we use.
