Roots Revival - Aswad, Music Downloads - Online
Roots Revival FROM CONNECT - Music Downloads Powered by Sony.
Review: Roots Revival is an apt title for this album, since Aswad's greatest successes have been as a pop-reggae crossover band, most notably with the huge 1988 hit "Don't Turn Around." On this one the group returns to its roots with a vengeance.
The sound is still pretty slick, but the material includes a remake of Ken Boothe's rocksteady classic "Freedom Street," two seldom-covered Bob Marley tunes ("Caution" and "Thank You Lord"), a decent cover of the Police's "Invisible Sun" (featuring Sting in a guest appearance), and a bunch of relatively roots-wise new originals.

Charley Groth - The Music Man: Singer - Songwriter - Instrumentalist - Entertainer
The American Roots Revival reaches out to the same audiences who loved this movie--people who enjoy the music of our American heritage in its many forms.
The Roots Revival format is simple and effective: Charley and his band, Charley Groth & Group are the featured performers, usually supported by one or sometimes two opening acts representing the best acoustic/traditional/roots music performers from the area where the show is being presented.
Audiences experience something that is often new to them in Charley's own top-quality music, which has been compared to the music of Doc Watson mixed with that of a storytelling songwriter plus liberal infusions of traditional country, jazz, and folk styles...and something known and familiar in the music of the local area acts included.

Aswad has been one of the England's longest-lasting reggae bands: since the mid-'70s, they have been active as a backing group for Jamaican stars visiting the U.K. (Dennis Brown, Black Uhuru) and as hit-makers.
They were one of the first reggae groups to mix jazz, soul, and funk in with a roots sound.
ROOTS REVIVAL features Aswad's trademark sound--smooth, rich harmonising; Bob Marley-influenced lead vocals; regal-sounding horns; and punchy and buoyant rhythms--merged with the influences of world music and a bit of pop sensibility.

  Gambit Weekly : Roots Revival : August 22, 2006
However, considering the hit that New Orleans' roots music culture took from the post-Katrina exodus of talent and the tailspin that most institutions that preserve and nurture indigenous Gulf Coast sounds were thrown into, it's the conference's appendix Roots Music Gathering that's probably the most relevant to New Orleans' needs.
The list of names represented on the Roots Music Gathering's panels should probably some day be carved into marble and set up in Congo Square to memorialize the efforts of the exhausted individuals and organizations that provided the crutch for New Orleans music to limp along on during this strange and difficult year.
There are three major panels that comprise the Gathering; the opening panel on survival, the "Roots Music Tradition Bearers -- Post Hurricane Conversation," and the "Roots Music Preservation and Presentation" discussion, which gathers folklorists and preservationists from throughout the Gulf South and mid-South region.

  Revival
The roots of revival in America can be traced to The Great Awakening of the mid 1700s; the Second Great Awakening of the early 1800s; and to such men as Jonathan Edwards, George Whitefield, and Charles Finney.
If one accepts their definition of revival, refusal to participate in revival meetings does not make one an opponent of evangelism, since the purpose of revival is not evangelism.
Revival meetings are often based on what is known theologically as "crisis sanctification." Put simply, "crisis sanctification" is the view that a person can be saved but they do not really give their lives over totally to God until some "crisis" happens in their life.

Science Fair Projects - Roots revival
Often, roots revivals include an addition of newly-composed songs with socially and politically aware lyrics, as well as a general modernization of the folk sound.
In most cases, the folk music being revived were not quite extinct, though some hadn't been played for years or were moribund; such cases include the Celtic musics of Cornwall and the Isle of Man, for example.
With such a vague and variable definition, roots revival could be seen as referring to the creation of any kind of pop music industry, though there are countries with well-developed pop traditions that have not had a period referred to as a roots revival (such as Jamaica, India, Cuba and Kenya).

REMID has its roots in the present unsatisfactory media situation in Germany, where there is a lack of qualified and non-denominational persons in the field of 'religon'.
The danger of the rhema vs. logos doctrines can be seen in some of the current renewal and revival movements, where experience and extra-Biblical revelation are increasingly taking precedence over the written Word of God.
The renewal and revival movements have adopted this doctrine, because it fits in with their view that the Church is to be lead and taught by prophets and apostles who, they claim, reveal things that were previously "hidden".

Roots Too: White Ethnic Revival in Post-Civil Rights America by Matthew Frye Jacobson | PopMatters Book Review
Ethnic revival shifted the iconography of Americanism from WASPy Plymouth Rock to downtrodden Ellis Island, which in turn normalized a narrative of immigration, poverty, hardscrabble work and sacrifice, and eventual uplift over the generations into educated, suburban comfort.
White ethnics, eager to dissociate themselves from the newly contested social power of whiteness, aggressively and publicly positioned themselves as Italians, Slavs, Hungarians, Jews, and Poles, in contrast to the WASP establishment.
Roots Too ends by noting the ultimate irony of the myths that guide the ethnic revival: even as immigration is enshrined as the quintessential American experience, white Americans manifest a vitriolic opposition to immigration when it comes across not the Atlantic but the Rio Grande.
