Rory went on to form Taste in 1967 ­ a band who soon met with wide acclaim, and subsequently headed for London where they were an immediate success at London’s famed Marquee Club, counting among their fans John Lennon.
On his return, Rory was invited to guest on an album by yet another of his heroes, Jerry Lee Lewis (a double album recorded in London), and went on to the Montreux Jazz Festival to record with Albert King on his “Live In Montreux” album, then guested with jazz/blues giant Chris Barber.
Rory made television history as the first ever artist to appear on Rockpalast, transmitted live to some fifteen countries with an estimated audience of 50 million.

It is also well documented that the Rolling Stones auditioned Rory for the band as their permanent guitarist in the '70s but he refused on the basis that it was against all he believed in terms of his own name and style.
Rory was always associated with his famous well-worn sunburst Stratocaster, which currently resides in the custody of his brother Donal Gallagher who has officially retired it.

Gallagher's creative juices were still hot after after just breaking up his band Taste, who were just about to attain international success when they broke up because of management and musical differences within the band.
Rory Gallagher never released a bad CD (Big Guns being the possible exception), however, this gem renders the others, themselves all time classics, second rate.
Gallagher was especially eloquent on guitar, whether acoustic or electric, but the dude could also wail on the sax and was a very accomplished mandolin player as well.
