Conclusion of Rosamunde Pilcher's two-part sequel to `Coming Home', the story of the Carey-Lewis clan from the end of World War II to the early 50s.
The year is 1947 and the Carey-Lewis family is trying to come to terms with life in post-war Britain, feeling its way rather nervously across the unfamiliar terrain of high taxes, nationalisation and Mr Attlee's other Socialist innovations, when a cosy family get-together is interrupted by little grandson Nat.
John Goldsmith, who adapted Pilcher's book, and Simon Langton who directs, attempt to introduce a touch of gritty realism to the syrupy fictional mixture with fl-and-white, Pathe-type newsreel footage, but it doesn't sit quite comfortably with the narrative, serving only as an interruption instead.
