Marcos Highway, which starts from Agoo, La Union, and Naguilian Highway, which starts from Bauang, La Union, are more roundabout routes but are much safer than Kennon Road and are the only routes permitted to buses and trucks.

The body found at Barangay Taloy Sur in Tuba on June 23 was identified by relatives as that of Franklin Gac-oy, 19, a second year dentistry student at Pines City Colleges.
Police said relatives of Bulakit went to Rosario, La Union, on Friday to identify if the headless body found there earlier that day was Bulakit's.
Reports said Bulakit, also a native of Tabuk, was a criminology student of the University of the Cordilleras (formerly the Baguio Colleges Foundation) here.

This access road is between Kennon Road and Naguilian Road passing through Rosario or Agoo, La Union.

Franklin Gac-oy, a dentistry student of Pines City College in Baguio and village mate Martin Bulakit, were found headless and handless in Marcos Highway and Rosario, La Union, respectively late last week.
Their bodies were brought to the La Paz Funeral Homes along Naguilian Road on Friday.
The "summary executions" of the two college students were the latest addition to the increasing number of suspected salvage victims dumped in remote areas near the highways in Benguet province and nearby La Union province.

Bauang, La Union – Five passengers died on the spot while 10 others were injured, most of them seriously, when a 10-wheeler dump struck sideswiped the minibus they were riding in a sharp curve along the national highway in Barangay Quirante of this town at about noon Monday.
Police identified the fatalities as Teresita Abuan Dacanay, 37, of Camp I Rosario, La Union; Marilou Farol, 42, of Parian Este, Bauang; Lily Penera, of 652 De Guzman Street, Central West, Bauang; and Roderick Abuan, 27, of Central East, Bauang.
The injured passengers are now confined at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in the capital city of San Fernando.
