Rose enters with the coffee, asking what they’re going to tell the police, and although she sees the Doctor struggling to remove the arm from his throat, she assumes he’s pulling the same gag that Mickey did.
Rose sets up a meeting with the webmaster, Clive, and Mickey reluctantly drives her to Clive’s home; however, he stays alert in the car outside, ready to rush to the rescue if Clive turns out to be a dangerous online lunatic.
Rose triggers a nearby fire alarm, and as the restaurant’s terrified patrons flee, she and the Doctor run out the back, pursued by the now-headless replica.

Doctor and Rose get super-British on each other, and he explains that all plastic on earth is now evil, and that he is going to fight it with "anti-plastic." Luckily, he is super-cute, or else this kind of talk would get him a kick in the nuts.
Rose and the Doctor go have a meeting with a big pit of living plastic, and Mickey's there, and the plastic talks, and it's gross and kind of silly, but you start to figure out how much the Doctor loves humanity, which is: bunches, and that's the thing that powers the entire show.
Rose saves her Mom, her boyfriend, her Doctor, and humanity by going all Indiana Chav on the evil plastic, causing the mannequins to do the Safety Dance, and everything blows up, for some reason.

The sequence where the Doctor attempts to do a clever card trick and fails is funny, but takes on an added significance for people who remember that the last two incumbents but one were occasionally given to irritatingly showy magic tricks.
The Doctor's speech about feeling the Earth turning seems a bit irritating, although that might simply be the effect of having seen it over and over again in the previews for the series.
Rose's Mum, in this story, comes across as something of a class stereotype, going on obsessively about claiming compensation, and flirting heavily with the Doctor when he stops by her flat.

Rose Tyler is an absolutely ordinary Londoner working at a department store, living with her mum, and dating a bloke who's best suited for snacking in front of a football match.
Her rather narrow world view (only one world, the Earth, to be precise) allows the Doctor an opportunity to explain the fantastic nature of the story, but her quick wit and speedy grasp of the situation will prevent her from appearing ignorant or obtuse in the audience's eyes.
His alien nature assured, the Doctor's love for Earth returns with force as defends his adopted home from an alien invasion that pays homage to the original series without wallowing in continuity to the detriment of new audiences.

Following on from the previous eight incarnations, this Doctor is a white human-looking male with two hearts and a spaceship disguised as an old London police box.

You can almost hear Rose and the Doctor talking during the book, and the plotline is very similar to an episode with it's twists and turns.
In short, for adult readers and long-term Who fans this will be a fairly familiar romp, and at best mildly distracting fluff, but for younger readers coming to Doctor Who with only knowledge of the new TV series this should be challenging and enjoyable stuff.

Rose gets a plausible motivation to join the Doctor, and we do feel like we've dropped in on the middle of a larger story showing the Doctor investigating the Nestene Consciousness' latest invasion attempt, which he is now in the process of dealing with.
I also agreed that there was no problem with CE being a new body for the doctor and that all the historical images could have been from visits he made to earths past in his personal future...
When the Fourth Doctor stepped into TARDIS during his very first adventure the Robot, and even though it dissapeared but for a few seconds, later this was used to account for some of his travels.
