George Metsker and the father of the baby gave land on a hilltop where their farms joined for a cemetery and here the body was buried.
Jesse Reese, a schoolteacher, died in 1810 and was the second person buried in the McConkey Cemetery.
The cemetery is located about 4 miles south east of Catawba on the McConkey Road.

Confederate Square, located at the far east end of Rose Hill Cemetery, is the final resting place of approximately 600 Confederate soldiers.
Jane Lumsden Hardeman who led the effort to gather all the soldiers who had died in the hospitals scattered across Bibb county, and relocate them in Rose Hill.  Also, three Confederate generals are buried in Rose Hill: Philip Cook, Alfred Colquitt, and Edward Dorr Tracy.
In adjacent Riverside Cemetery are the remains of a Confederate battery.

June 30, 1880, Niels Simonsen deeded to the First Scandinavian Methodist Episcopal Church of Turner County, Dakota Territory, a parcel of land, consisting of 2 acres and 4 rods, to be used for a cemetery.
No further records were available until June 23, 1930, then the property was turned over to the Rose Hill Cemetery Association, by Nels Johnson, President and Mrs.
Then, on or about September 1, 1967 the Cemetery Association purchased more land to the east, known as the Johnson Tract One in Viborg, South Dakota.

After searching Chicago's Rosehill Cemetery for two markers and not finding them, I realized they were in Graceland.

The Cemetery and Funeral Home have always been very helpful but they prefer written requests, with no more than three to five names per request, and a large S.A.S.E. [self addressed stamped envelope].
Also, many cemeteries have begun to charge a small fee for copies, so please ask if there is a charge.
