Rosemary Byrne is a member of the Scottish Parliament for the South of Scotland.
Byrne lives in Irvine and was a teacher and a trade union activist for several years.
In 2003 she was elected to the Scottish Parliament, and scored the SSP's best constituency vote outside Glasgow in Cunninghame South.

Despite an unexpected 6-3 victory over Taghmon in the 2nd leg of the division 1 mixed league final it was not enough to deny the defending champions the opportunity of retaining their title and to go on to represent Wexford in the Leinster inter club championship later in the season.
Having been soundly trashed 8-1 in the opening leg New Ross were not expected to fare much better in the 2nd encounter but the home side took the opening ladies doubles game with considerable ease with Rosemary Burke and Brideen Lynch completely dominated their match against Elaine Dunne and Gillian Murphy to win 15/1, 15/2.
Rosemary Burke and Karen Henessey got the team off to a perfect start with a 15/13, 17/15 victory over Mary Walsh and Fiona Walsh.
