  Queensland - LoveToKnow 1911
Queensland waters are not at present infested by any species of alligator, though in times past one of large size was a scourge on the borders of the then inland sea.
The population of Queensland in 1905 was estimated at 528,048-290,206 males and 237,842 females, the density of population per sq.
An act was passed granting powers to a company to construct a railway from the rich mining district of Chillagoe to the terminus of the Cairns railway at Mareeba; at the end of fifty years the State was to have the right to acquire the line.

 Western Line
The line was built to open the country up to settlement and bring the rich bounty of wool and livestock to the coast.
The line continues in a northwest direction until it reaches Chinchilla (1878, 325km) where it continues in a generally western direction to Miles (1878, 370km), which is the junction station for the Wandoan Branch to the north.
From Miles the line continues across the western downs to Roma (1880, 511km) a large farming and administrative centre, there are five crossing loops on the section and several grain silos.

::: Southern Downs Steam Railway - Historical information :::
Thence the line has been surveyed on a falling contour of 1 in 66 the eastern slopes of the Main and Liverpool ranges, reaching the foot of the latter near the junction of the Bremer with Boyd’s Creek (366ft.) at a distance of twenty-five miles from the summit, or fifty-six and a-half miles from Warwick.
I estimate that the line and works on this section will not cost less than £23,000 per mile, and may possibly exceed this amount, as it is extremely difficult, without detailed plans and quantities, to arrive at any close approximation to the cost of works of such magnitude.
The shorter length of railway to construct, the lesser magnitude of the works involved, and the consequent greater rapidity with which the line could be completed.

 petan.net - Gold Coast Rail
While the Coomera River bridge base was strengthened and some sections of the South Brisbane to Kuraby line were duplicated and improved in the 1950's, other sections of the rail line were in their original single line alignment and still featured the original tight curves of the original track.
The line was regarded as being unproductive and with an estimated cost of £3,000,000 to upgrade, the Southport line closed in preference to upgrading other more profitable lines, as had become railway practice.
Had the line been upgraded in the late 1950's/early 1960's as proposed it is still unlikely that C17's would have been rostered on to the South Coast line as generally speaking C17's were rostered elsewhere in the state and were considered better goods engines than passenger locomotives.

Oddly enough we who speak of the Rosewood Scrub usually mean not the scrub itself but where it used to be: the cleared hills and valleys.
The surveyors for the State's first railway line chose to bypass it, while the squatters of the 1840s, 1850s and 1860s who vied greedily for the tastiest pieces of the south-east Queensland pie, largely ignored it.

The fork line with a gradient of 1 in 20, was provided to turn the disastrous McKeen Rail Cars (1913-1931), which were generally permitted to run with passengers in the Forward direction only.
The fork line was later found to be too steep for the low powered cars, particularly with a trailer attached, and as a result the gradient of the fork line was eased to a gradient of 1 in 25, 4 months after construction.
The fork line was out of use by December 1950, with eventual removal occurring by 1963, leaving only the refuge as a legacy of the failure of QGR's first venture into Rail Motors.

In 1842 he permitted only “united committees” of the provincial estates; and in 1847, after long delay, he summoned not a popular representative assembly but the United Diet, comprising all the provincial estates, with the right to grant taxes and loans but without the right to meet at regular intervals.
This unwieldy body remained his ideal, even though the narrow limits of his concessions immediately produced a conflict (the Diet's refusal of the proposed loan for the Berlin–Königsberg railway) and even though this first assembly of all Prussia powerfully increased the people's self-confidence on the eve of the Revolution of 1848.
Despite belated attempts to organize a common resistance by the German governments, Friedrich Wilhem was eventually completely overwhelmed by the revolution in March 1848, which was inspired by the revolution of the preceding month in France.
