		Rosh Chodesh is the monthly celebration of the New Moon, according to the Jewish calendar.
		In addition, the Haftarah for Rosh Chodesh falling on Shabbat is from Isaiah 66, a passage which employs fertility imagery to describe God and Zion as life-bearers, providing nurturance to the people Israel; the passage further prophesies a special pilgrimage to Jerusalem on Rosh Chodesh in the future.
		Rosh Chodesh groups began in the early 1970's, as women gathered to explore the nature of women's spirituality and the role of Jewish women in ritual.

		In Hebrew, Rosh Chodesh means, literally, "head of the month" or "first of the month." Rosh Chodesh is the first day of any new month.
		If a month is 30 days long, then the 30th day is treated as part of the Rosh Chodesh for the next month, and the Rosh Chodesh for next month extends for two days (the 30th of the earlier month and the 1st of the later month).
