There are 11 settlements in what is commonly known as the Gush Etzion bloc: Har Gilo, Neve Daniel, Keidar, Rosh Tzurim, El’azar, Migdal Oz, Alon Shvut, Kfar Etzion, Bat Ayin, Gva’ot (a military educational Nahal), Beitar Illit, and Efrata.
In Rosh Tzurim construction of a few dozen apartments has recently been completed and preparations are underway for additional construction.
Of the remaining smaller communities located inside the Gush Etzion bloc itself, Kfar Etzion and Rosh Tzurim are religious communities whose inhabitants vote primarily for the National Religious Party and National Union.

 The Commentator
It certainly is peaceful and quiet in Rosh Tzurim, situated near Efrat and Alon Shvut.
Kibbutz Ein Tzurim was established in Gush Etzion in 1946 by members of B'nai Akiva.
In 1969 Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim was established by Nachal Youth affiliated with Bnai Akiva not far from where Kibbutz Ein Tzurim had once been.

The convoy of the first settlers of Kibbutz Ein Tzurim as it arrived in the Etzion Bloc in October 1946.
In 1969 Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim was settled on the same site in the Etzion Bloc.
This bunker was situated under the "German Monastery" and was used as an infirmary and radio shack during the final days of Kfar Etzion in 1948.

 The Etzion Bloc
Jews finally did settle the area between 1943-1947, and established four small communities, which were all subsequently destroyed during Israel’s War of Independence.
At the outset of the conflicts in 1947, Gush Etzion consisted of four settlements: Kfar Etzion (the first settlement in the area, founded in 1943), Masuot Yitzhak, Ein Tzurim and Revadim.
On January 14, 1947, an army of more than 1,000 Arabs, led by Abdul-Khadr Husseini, attacked the settlements.

This latter group of 20 teenagers focus more on vocational than academic activities but as well as tending their animals and their gardens, they lend a hand in the education and instruction for the younger children.
Sadna is located in Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim, a rural setting approximately 20 km South West of Jerusalem.
The tranquility and space that the kibbutz provides allows for a number of therapeutic activities which benefit all the children.

Ein Tzurim had been established by survivors of the original Kibbutz Ein Tzurim, first founded in the Etzion Bloc and then destroyed in the first Arab war against Israel in 1948, its Jewish defenders killed or taken captive by Jordan.
Following Israel's liberation of the Etzion Bloc from Arab control in 1967, Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim was established on the ruins of Ein Tzurim.
The veterans of 1948, together with later generations from Ein Tzurim, went up on Jerusalem Day to the hill where their first homes had been, to celebrate, and to complete some unfinished business.

Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim was founded on the remains of Kibbutz Ein Tzurim, which was destroyed in the War of Independence.
The original founders of Rosh Tzurim were members of Bnei Akiva, the religious scouts, and second generation Kibbutz members.
Close to ten years ago the kibbutz members decided that change was needed for the future growth and prosperity of the community.

We usually understand the language “M'Rosh Tzurim - from the top of the rocks” and “U'Migva'ot - from the hills” - to mean that we must view Jewish history from a much higher and longer perspective.
Namely, that we must have the ability to be seriously retrospective and fully appreciate the depth and breadth of our history.

I wish to draw your attention to the latest act of Palestinian terrorism directed against Israel.
Palestinian gunmen from the town of Beit Jala shot Tzahi Sasson, 35, a father of two from Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim, as he drove on the bridge that joins the two Gush Etzion road tunnels on Sunday night.
Sasson lost control of his vehicle and crashed into another car, slightly injuring three civilians.

*Hanan Porat was expelled as a child with his family from Kibbutz Ein Tzurim in Gush Etzion when it was overrun by the Jordanians in the War of Independence.
He grew up on the relocated Kibbutz Ein Tzurim, and after the Six-Day War, along with other children of the kibbutz, re-established Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim in Gush Etzion.

On Feb. 20, Roni Diament was shot in the stomach in similar circumstances, and his recovery has been termed miraculous.

This past week the big kids and I attended the annual Cherry Festival that is held on Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim (about 5 minutes from Efrat) here in Gush Etzion.
But when my wife went to bring my father-in-law to Beit Shemesh and then returned, we (the kids and I) needed to walk from Rosh Tzurim almost the entire way to Alon Shvut!
I think there are a few girls who would disagree with you over the 19 year old soldier issue though.

The broadcast also used the term "met his fate" for the death of the man who took a road whose use is specifically protected by several of Palestinian-Israeli agreements commonly known as "the Oslo Accords."
The Voice of Palestine and other state-run Palestinian media also did not condemn the murder or broadcast any calls for restraint-though this is also required by the Oslo Accords.

Tzachi Sasson of Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim, was murdered Sunday night by Palestinian terrorists shooting from Beit Jalla onto the Tunnels Highway.
Thousands of mourners accompanied the funeral procession Monday afternoon from Rosh Tzurim, in Gush Etzion to Har HaMenuchot in Jerusalem.
Sasson, 35, is survived by his wife - a social worker whose specialty is helping those who have lost loved ones - and two children.

It’s Friday afternoon and we, meaning the entire family, are laying about the house concentrating on little more than digestion.
About an hour ago we returned from kibbutz Rosh Tzurim (located less than 10 minutes from our house), where the annual Cherry Festival is in full swing.
Let me just say for the record that we all love cherries.
