One of the students of the Slabodka Yeshiva killed in the 1929 massacre was a fellow named Jacob Wexler from Chicago (see http://ajhistory.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_ajhistory_archive.html).
Wexler was so impressed that he sent his son to Israel to study, "entrusting" his son to the Rosh Yeshiva.
After the massacre, the Rosh Yeshiva didn't return to Chicago for a number of years, out of fear/embarrassment of having to face the murdered student's father.

Rabbi Pesach Yitzhak Stein (1918-2002) was a renowned Rosh Yeshiva at the Telz Yeshiva in Cleveland, Ohio.
