Leading The Leaders: A Conversation With Yeshiva University President Richard Joel
Yeshiva University has to be at the forefront of being a kind of leadership lab for what I call klei kodesh [Jewish communal professionals] and lay kodesh.
But I do have to tell you that I don't know another yeshiva in the world where probably 90 to 95 percent of the roshei yeshiva are college graduates, have master's degrees, and several either have or are perusing Ph.D.s.
Yeshiva's harder than other universities because it's a major research university, and willy-nilly, it takes responsibility for a hunk of the future of the Jewish people.

And the roshei yeshiva of yeshivos ketanos are far more circumscribed than the roshei yeshiva of yeshivos gedolos because almost all of them give a daily shiur and are in the yeshiva most of the day.
