The Roshigumi eventually split with one group returning to Edo and one staying in Kyoto.

Sasaki (Ihara Tsuyoshi), one of the leaders of the Roshigumi, is not pleased with Serizawa’s (Sato Koichi) group.
There are fifteen members in the Roshigumi, and as usual the conflict of who should be its leader continues.

The Shinsengumi were not named the “Shinsengumi”; in the beginning and were known as the “Roshigumi”.
Formed in Mibu village and under the jurisdiction of the Aizu Clan, the Mibu Roshigumi worked hard to keep the peace in Kyoto, especially against the anti-bakufu ronin from the samurai clans of Choushu and Satsuma.
The Mibu Roshigumi was divided between its head chiefs: Serizawa Kamo and Niimi Nishigi on one side and Kondou Isami – head of the Shieikan Dojo – on the other.

His life was driven by the desire to be a samurai during the Edo period when there was a strict hierachy of the class system making it difficult for him to be accepted as a samurai because he was born in the farmer class.
In 1863, he joined the Roshigumi with Hijikata Toshizo and Okita Soshi.
They were put under the control of Aizu clan with the job of Kyoto Shugoshoku and worked as police in Kyoto.

A core group of staunch loyalists stayed behind, and with some 20 men, including the three captains Kamo Serizawa, Isami Kondo, and Nishiki Niimi, they served as the Shogunate police force in Kyoto.
In order to disassociate themselves with the group who had actually had anti-shogunate leanings, they renamed themselves from the Roshigumi to the Shinsengumi ("the new chosen ones.")
Kondo took control of the group, making Yamanami and Hijikata his vice captains, and the Shinsengumi were reborn.

Isami Kondou, an adopted samurai heeded that call, and joined the Roshigumi together with his friends and students at his dojo to act as protector of the Tokugawa shogunate.
Thirteen of the original twenty four members of the Roshigumi left later on due to differences in ideals, and formed the Shinsengumi led by Isami Kondou.
The three original captains of the Shinsengumi were Kamo Serizawa (Shishio Makoto was said to have been based from him), Isami Kondo, and Nishiki Niimi.

 Shinsengumi Club - How did it start?
The Roshigumi split when one of the other commanders left to form an Imperialist Shoichigumi.
The Shinsengumi was first stationed in the Mibu prefecture where they got their name Miburo.
Answer to Question # 2: In the original Sheikan before the Roshigumi, Kondo, Hijikata Okita, Yamanami and the Three Stooges were all living happily together as friends (not everybody there atended Kondo's dojo I think).

It's mostly about a man named Sasaki, who lead the Mimawarigumi later on, and Kiyokawa Hachiro, who formed the Roshigumi.
The first is when they find out about the orders from the Emperor.
The second is a bit later, when he comes to tell Kiyokawa that he and some of the others are quitting the Roshigumi and going out on their own.

He joined the Roshigumi in 1863 and goes with Kondou and others to Kyoto
He participated in the Ikedaya raid on 1864
