Topic: Rosicrucian Digest

  Baxter
To the Rosicrucians of the age of Elizabeth, it hardly seems questionable that the rose was the symbol of silence, as among the ancients it was originally derived from the pagan tradition that the God of Love made the first rose, which he presented to the God of Silence.
It was an age of isms in which men flung loose the jesses of Fancy, and soared aimlessly amid the drifting clouds of fiction, or were ensnared in the toils of superstition; an age in which men mad with the lust of power crushed with mailed heel those with helplessness should have been their protection.
It is interesting to note that the Rosicrucian Brotherhood especially flourished in England during Bacon's life, and that its existence was not made known to the world, and then on the Continent, until the year of the actor's death.

The Rosicrucian Digest is a publication of the Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis, published continuously from 1915 (the year the Order was founded in USA by Harvey Spencer Lewis).
It is not the same as Rosicrucian Digest, which is another publication of AMORC available to the general public.
Rosicrucians, as AMORC states, trace their past to Ancient Egypt because their beliefs, wisdom, practices and methods are consistent to the ones taught by the Ancient Egyptian Mystery Schools.

 Rosicrucianism, Rosicrucian Fellowship, Christian Rosenkreutz
The symbol of Rosicrucians is a Christian cross with a rose in the center, and it is an "alchemy symbolism":
The fundamental elements of the two spheres of Rosicrucianism, earthly and heavenly, are not only visible but are thereby fused in the symbols of the rose superimposed on the cross.
And even so, all the Rosicrucian groups have the "Fama" as their main doctrinal book, with another two novels by Andreae, "Confessio Fraternitatis" (1615), and "Chymische Hochzeit Christiani Rosenkreutz" (1616); Andreae also stated that these two books were "fiction novels", without any basis in real life!.

This claim to being the only one and true Rosicrucian body attracted not only disillusioned seekers from other organizations, but also attracted new members who felt comfort and security in the idea of belonging to an organization that had not only 'traditional' roots in antiquity, but historical ones as well.
If this had been all there was to AMORC's modern Rosicrucian alchemical legacy, it would have been written off as a failed publicity stunt, and ended up as a footnote in the development of American alchemy.
Despite the obvious questions regarding the article's validity, and complete historical accuracy, it was reprinted by AMORC in the March 1942 edition of the "Rosicrucian Digest", the organization’s magazine having changed its name sometime in the early 1930's.

 Theurgy and the Martinist Tradition
To begin with, it is important to understand that the author of the article in The Rosicrucian Digest is not a Theurgist, was never a Theurgist, and has no idea about genuine Theurgy.
Therefore, the author of that article would not know what Theurgy is and would not be capable of actually writing anything informative or instructive about the Act and Art of Theurgy, other than to fall back into the standard practice of the uninformed which is to breathe hushed and ominous "warnings" about it.
Secondly, understanding authentic and genuine Martinist history, and understanding (and using) the practices of authentic Martinism is not now and seldom has been a strong "forte" of AMORC and its officers.
