 Roskilde University
In many areas Roskilde University has broken with traditional principles of university teaching; this applies both to the ways the studies are organised and to the forms of study.
Since its foundation, the core of the pedagogical principles applied at the university has consisted of student influence, co-responsibility for the students' own studies, the development of the students' ability to co-operate, a high level of qualification in the individual subjects as well as interdisciplinarity.
The strong research profile of the university is based on the professional environments which stand out internationally and which can participate in professional constellations across subjects in constant consideration of the development in research and new academic problems.

Project Work at Roskilde University, DK (1999)
In relation to the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Roskilde University, several of the basic features constituting the Roskilde model of higher education have been the subject of critical discussion in the media: two year basic studies programmes, interdisciplinarity, and project work.
Reflecting on this critique we have found that the basic social changes which made the far reaching educational experiment of Roskilde University possible (subjectively realisable) and necessary (objectively in relation to social-material changes) still are in existence a generation later.
At a university, where we use projects as a strategy for learning, it is and usually should be a secondary goal as to whether there comes a 'product' out of the project; and when that happens, it ought not happen at the expense of learning.
