Four of the five courses are located near the Alabama state line, from Harrison Bay near Chattanooga to Ross Creek Landing and Chickasaw in West Tennessee along Interstate 64.
Ross Creek Landing near Clifton is the most recent addition to the Bear Trace, opening in 2001.
The links tenor of the course, which lies on a hilly peninsula of land almost surrounded by Tims Ford Reservoir and the state park, is felt by the fourth hole, a narrow par-4 with a shallow green that is perched behind one of the course's many deep sand traps.

It was during this battle that John Ross swam the frigid waters of the Tallapoosa River to help steal the Creek's "getaway" canoes which were then used by the Cherokee in a rear attack on the Creek Indians.
John Ross hope to have a star on the U.S. flag for the State of Cherokee was in vain.
Ross petitioned the government for permission to remove his people over land in cooler weather and under their own leadership.

Big Ridge State Park was one of five demonstration parks developed by the Tennessee Valley Authority in cooperation with the National Park Service and the Civilian Conservation Corps as an example of public recreation development along TVA lakeshores.
Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park Bordering on the mighty Mississippi River, two-thirds of this 13,467-acre park are bottomland hardwood forests of large oak, cypress and tupelo.
The park has 19 rustic vacation cabins and 10 three-bedroom deluxe cabins and there are two camping areas with 25 sites in the east section and 50 sites in the west section of the park.

 ADAH: Montgomery Historical Markers
Figh was one of the chief contractors for the construction of the Alabama State Capitol.
Speakers of the day included Holland Thompson, first fl alderman and a state legislator, who advised “show by good conduct, industry, and fidelity, that the year 1866 was a year of jubilee, instead of insurrection.” He also told the crowd to acquire land, homes, and education for their children.
Land for the road was deeded to Montgomery County in September 1926 by local landowners from the Teague, Bellingrath and Matthews families.

 Travel: A golden golfing opportunity
One course is in the central part of the state between Nashville and Knoxville.
The course is in Chickasaw State Park and is an easy drive from the Shiloh National Military Park.
On a scenic spit of land in Tims Ford State Park, the course was called a "glittering newcomer" by one golf magazine after its 1999 opening.

Pyramid Creek, which meets the highway about 1 mile east of the turn-off for the community of Diablo, removed a 150 foot length of highway, eroding a deep trench and damaging another long length of road surface (see photographs).
On the average, snow further east on the highway causes closure of the road at milepost 134 (the Ross Dam Trailhead) from mid-November to mid-April.
This road leaves State Route 20 at Marblemount, which is milepost 0 for the Cascade River Road, and enters North Cascades National Park as an unpaved road at milepost 18.1.

The park is littered with reminders of both the rich natural and cultural resources of the area relating to the sea.
The top of the bluff of the North Cove and the rocks along its fact are riddled with remnant iron pins reflecting the presence of the lumber chute and wharf in the latter part of the 19th century and early 20th century.
Sonoma Coast State Beach is a 13 mile, contiguous strand of 11 beaches extending from Bodega Headlands at its southern boundary to the Russian River in the north.

Access: Several points along the shore of Ross Lake via the Ross Lake Resort water taxi, or from the trailhead on Wash. 20 to the terminus of the trail at Hozomeen Campground.
During the summer, this is one of the most popular trails in the whole park because of its plentiful and well-maintained campsites, the easy grade of its path, and its proximity to Wash. 20.
You could amble past the Thunder Creek Arm of Diablo Lake to the intersection with the Fourth of July Pass Trail (also called the Panther Creek Trail), then head to the left and make a loop around the hub of ever-looming (and it goes without saying, snowcapped and gorgeous) Ruby Peak.

We got off the bus and hiked to a “landing” area where logs were being stacked for loading on a semi for delivery to a processing plant.
Ross explained a couple of mentoring programs that sound like great opportunities for high school teachers to learn at the station.

Ross Finlayson adds (7/16/96): Yes, the $6 park entrance fee is definitely worth it.
Go on through that area (if the park is staffed, you can get a poor topo map from their bookstore; but the Krebs map's coverage is better), and through a tunnel under highway 1.

The basalt of the area is loose; when you pull a roof into a somewhat uncleaned topout, expect about 30% of what you grab to be loose.
Some routes have an excellent almost manacured landing, and others have a nice sharp chunk of rock on a steep hillside underneath the crux.
Continue 3 short blocks to Woodcrest, where you should go left and almost immediately park on the street, next to a gate that has a dirt road and an ugly looking barbed wire fence behind it.

Although Porter was released pending court appearance on the federal charges, he subsequently failed to appear in local court for theft of the county SAR equipment.
Large sections of the recently repaired Stehekin Valley road were swept away, the park maintenance shop had over a foot of standing water on its floors, the Company Creek road and Harlequin Bridge areas were extensively damaged, and at least four residences on private land were damaged.
On the west side of the park, the flooding aggravated damage caused by floods that struck the area in early November.

Today we visited the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in D.C. I had seen many pictures and movies, etc. on the Holocaust, but the exhibit at this museum was beyond anything I had seen before.
It was pretty chilly still this afternoon, so we were thrilled to spot a Starbucks where the kids and Joel had a hot chocolate and I enjoyed a white chocolate mocha...
There is a huge monument in the center of a beautifully preserved park area, flanked on both ends with statues of some of the heroes from the day.
