ROSS Finnie was battling for his future as a minister last night after being forced to apologise for giving wrong information to the Scottish Parliament.
Mr Finnie admitted he was "extraordinarily embarrassed" after wrongly telling MSPs during a crucial debate yesterday on the recent water crisis affecting areas of Glasgow, that sheep were no longer grazing on the banks of Loch Katrine, which provides the city with its drinking water.
After Mr Finnie yesterday gave his assurance to MSPs that the sheep had been removed, Scottish Water contradicted the minister by admitting that around 3,000 sheep were still there - although they would be sold off by 16 September.

Finnie discusses the role of the business cycle in Canada, observing that Canadians appear more likely to leave when the Canadian economy is doing badly.
Finnie can measure return migration better than I could with my small sample, but it appears nevertheless that return migration is higher in the German case.

Ross Finnie, the fisheries minister, was last night accused of deceiving the Scottish people by rewriting history to spare his embarrassment over the handling of the fishing crisis.
Mr Finnie was accused on Wednesday of misleading the parliament when he suggested that Scottish Executive ministers had the authority to lead a UK delegation to the EU Council of Ministers.
Mr Finnie's remarks were later refuted by Whitehall when a spokesman for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said that only UK ministers had the power to lead such a delegation.
