The Ross Island Bridge is a cantilever truss bridge that spans the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.

Hawthorne Bridge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hawthorne Bridge is a truss bridge with a vertical lift that spans the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon, joining Hawthorne Boulevard and Madison Street.
The bridge was designed by John Waddell, inventor of the vertical lift bridge and also designer of the Steel and Interstate bridges.
Hawthorne Boulevard (and thus the bridge) was named after Dr. J.C. Hawthorne, the cofounder of Oregon's first mental hospital and early proponent for the first Morrison Bridge.

Portland, Oregon: Ross Island Bridge (Photo, PortlandBridges.com)
Finished in 1926, the Ross Island Bridge connects to Arthur Street directly on the west approach and to Powell Boulevard on the east approach.
Perhaps this is because, prior to the opening of the two modern Interstate highway bridges (the Marquam and Fremont) in the late 60's and early 70's, the Ross Island handled the bulk of the traffic across the river at the south part of downtown Portland.
But the bridge does not get nearly the foot traffic as, say, the Hawthorne, does, because the Ross Island is at the south part of downtown, and the complicated west side approaches are not designed well for pedestrians.

 The Sellwood Bridge
The common assumption that we must replace the Sellwood Bridge in the near future is surprising when it appears that rehabilitation might well extend its life and improve its utility for another 80 years or more.
The role of the Sellwood bridge in the existing Metro and City of Portland transportation plans is to connect a two-lane arterial, Tacoma St. across the Willamette River to Macadam Ave.
A major reason for the popular assumption that bridge replacement is the only long-range solution is because restoration would close it for an extended period of time and thus create major regional traffic disruption.

 WLB-BRIDGE LIGHTS - Marquam
Designed by the Oregon State Highway Department Bridge Section, the Marquam is a through-truss, fixed bridge with a suspended cantilever center span.
It opened in 1966 as an element of Portland's Interstate transportation system and was the city's first double-deck highway bridge built exclusively for vehicular traffic.
It was named for Philip Marquam, a 19th century transportation advocate, but its strictly functional appearance engendered, ironically, an outcry for public participation in future bridge designs—and periodic discussions of the merits of its removal.
