Starlings are small to medium-sized passerine birds in the family Sturnidae.
European Starlings introduced to North America have been a factor in reducing native cavity nesting bird populations (such as Bluebirds and Red-headed Woodpeckers) by competing aggressively for nesting cavities.
Starlings have diverse and complex vocalizations, and have been known to imbed sounds from their surroundings into their own calls, including car alarms, and human speech patterns.

The Rosy Starling, or Rose-coloured Starling, Sturnus roseus (occasionally treated as Pastor roseus) is a passerine bird in the starling family Sturnidae.
In India in winter, it often appears to outnumber the local starlings and mynas.
The song is a typical starling mixture of squeaks and rattles, given with much wing trembling.

Starlings are small to medium-sized passerine birds in the family Sturndidae.
Starlings occur naturally only in the Old World, some forms as far east as Australia, but several European and Asian species have been introduced to North America, and Australia where the Common Starling is a serious pest.

It was first sighted on the garage roof with a gang of it's vulgar relatives and then dropped down on to the patio below for some food scraps before flying off.
Our garden has three Rowans trees which have been there a long time but are going nowhere due to the enforced shading and drought created by the rampant hybrid conifers.
Some species, such as the Song Thrush, are far less regular now while others, such as the Magpie (from the early 1990s) and Collared Dove (the late 1990s), are increasingly common in the area.

The local Starlings know me well, and immediately panic whenever I walk in there, fleeing out of either the doorway if it's still ajar, or failing that out of the several small holes in the tarred wooden roof.
Not strictly true, but after a few nights of catching enormous hauls of exclusively Dark Arches, I've given up on the MV trap until my bushes and trees are more established and hopefully inspire some moths to stop by).
Wishing I'd found him a Rubythroat is of course a bit churlish, as Rosy Starling is a nice addition to the croft list, and there's plenty of weeks of autumn yet to find a mega.

The Rosy Starling is still at the mast.
Ward Hill was site of the day with the Rosy Starling, a Dotterel and a Lapland Bunting.
A Rosy Starling flew past the Obs after breakfast, a red male Common Rosefinch was at the Obs at lunch-time and an Osprey flew north over the Obs at 22:00!

An adult Hobby was in Homisdale, a Reed Warbler was in the Obs plantation (with a Marsh Warbler!) and 2 female Black Redstarts were seen.
June: An excellent morning’s census produced a Hobby on Vaasetter, Common Buzzard in Wirvie, a male Bluethroat singing at the Obs and a Red-breasted Flycatcher trapped in the Vaadal.
The Rosy Starling remains faithful to the mast area at Ward Hill.

Four Spot-winged Starlings, two of each sex, were seen at Thinuey Guard Station, Thung Yai Wildlife Sanctuary (Kanchanaburi) on 18 December, and a flock of 16–18 on 19 December (AW,NCC).
The first Chestnut-tailed Starlings appeared at the Chumphon Municipal Sports Ground on 27 October (two), and there were six, including one bright (apparently nominate race) bird together with a single Chestnut-cheeked Starling, a single White-shouldered Starling and 25 Purple-backed Starlings on 5 November (CN).
A single Chestnut-cheeked Starling was present on both the latter dates (CN) while an immature Rosy Starling was seen among over 100 Purple-backed Starlings at Laem Phak Bia on 14 March (SK).

Two Chestnut-cheeked Starlings, an adult and an immature were with a flock of Purple-backed Starlings at the Municipal Sports Ground (Chumphon) on 28 October (CN), making the second successive year that this species has been recorded.
The Rosy Starling was probably the same bird found earlier by CN on 7 October but not seen in the intervening period.
A Rosy Pipit photographed on Doi Ang Khang on 27 October (AJ, RK and SK, JS) was a new locality record.

A walk around the golf course gave us views of Indian roller, Rosy starling and Lesser whitethroat.
Red-rumped swallows, Rose coloured starling and Bank mynas were plentiful and a few Spanish sparrows were found in with abundant House sparrows.
Our last stop was at the Zabeel fish ponds where Pied starling joined all the others, one Green-backed heron and several Black-crowned night herons joined the list.

The BBC's Today programme broadcast a sorry tale of a vagrant Rosy Starling - normally seen in India and some parts of continental Europe - which arrived in coastal Norfolk and soon afterwards died.
The lady in whose garden it finally turned up its toes was upset by the behaviour of fanatical birdwatchers or 'twitchers', saying:
