The rosybill, as a pochard, is genetically related to the canvasback so much so that the hens in both species look very much alike.

They live in swamps lakes and marshes in North Chile, Paraguay, and North Argentina, feeding by dabbling on water plants and insects.
The Black-headed Duck is of interest as an obligate brood parasite, laying its eggs in the nests of other ducks, particularly the Rosybill (Netta peposaca), and also in coot (Fulica species) and even gull nests.
Unlike cuckoos and some other brood parasites neither the chicks nor adults destroy the eggs or kill the chicks of the host.

 BirdForum - Is this a Red-crested Pochard?
Looks most like Rosybill (Netta peposaca, a relative of Red-crested Pochard from South America) to me; probably a subadult male, as adult males have a knob on the base of the bill.
I think it looks like a Rosybill as well:used to be one at the Lough here in Cork city.
A subadult Rosybill does seem unlikely, because the plumage is already that of an adult bird (light flanks) and the bill is still not swollen at the base.
