Saw - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A saw is a tool for cutting wood or other material, consisting of a serrated blade (a blade with the cutting edge dentated or toothed) and worked either by hand or by steam, water, electric or other power.
A Hand saw uses either simply a blade thick enough to be stiff, or cuts on the pull stoke which reduces the stiffness requirement.
Rotary saw, for making accurate cuts without the need for a pilot hole in wallboard, plywood, and other thin materials, also called a spiral cut saw or a "RotoZip".

Rotary saw blade housing apparatus - Patent 5078266
Saw blades by their construction are of a generally dangerous configuration due to their construction, including a circular peripheral of cutting teeth.
In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of saw blade storage apparatus now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a rotary saw blade housing apparatus wherein the same accommodates in a circumferential and closing manner a plurality of saw blades for storage and transport thereof.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved rotary saw blade housing apparatus which has all the advantages of the prior art saw blade storage apparatus and none of the disadvantages.

Popular Mechanics - Band Saw   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
The band saw may be the most underrated stationary tool in woodworking--especially in the home shop.
If the saw includes a tilting table, as most do, you have the ability to cut compound miters or combinations of curved and angled cuts.
Band saws are designated by the diameter of the wheels, but a buyer should pay special attention to three important specifications: throat depth, resaw capacity and horsepower.

Popular Mechanics - Radial Arm Saw   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
Basic saw design consists of a column which controls the vertical movement of the blade, an arm which supports the saw carriage and controls miter angles, and a yoke that holds the motor and blade.
And, most saws have a threaded shaft on the back side of the motor that accepts a variety of attachments including chucks, rotary planers, sanding drums and buffing wheels.
Some saws are designed to be used on a bench, but many models include legs so you can set your saw up as a free-standing machine.

Depending on the size of the saw and blade, the depth of cut is normally limited to 3.5 to 5 inches deep, with 4 inches being the norm.
Third, most rotary saws will allow the blade to be mounted in the inboard or outboard position and positioning is easily accomplished by rotating or reversing the bar that holds the blade (be sure to check the operator’s manual for your saw).
However, compared to the rotary saw, the chain saw is not as versatile and is limited to primarily cutting operations in wood.

Third, as a single saw tooth makes a cut, the chip (and heat) is immediately removed from the cutter by the strong coolant flow and the centrifugal force of the rotating saw.
Similarly, the centerline of the saw and the centerline of the workpiece should be the same, although cutting on center is not as critical with RSC.
