The Red Town Hall (German Rotes Rathaus) on Rathausstraße in Mitte, is the town hall of Berlin.
During the Cold War and after its reconstruction during the 1950s to the original plans it served only as the town hall of East Berlin, while the Rathaus Schöneberg was domicile of the West Berlin senate.
Berlin students conducted an extended protest in front of the Rotes Rathaus against cutbacks in educational funding in 2004, camping out across the street from the building for several months and inducing many officials to enter via a side door to avoid heckling.

Located close to Alexanderplatz, it holds the office of the mayor of Berlin (since Berlin is still not just a city but also a state, the mayor is called "governing mayor").
During the time of the GDR, the Rote Rathaus was the seat of the East Berlin magistrate while the West Berlin mayor resided in the Schöneberger Rathaus, after the reunification the mayor of the city moved back into the Rote Rathaus.

this is the “Rotes Rathaus” (Red Town Hall), which is named after its facade and not its staff.
Unfortunatly it looks like nothing from above, but one may see the long shadow of the clock tower.
