Rotmistrz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rotmistrz (derived from German: Rittmeister) was a military rank in Poland from the 15th century to the mid-20th century.
In earlier times it was a field-grade rank, with the Rotmistrz serving as the commander of an infantry (rota piechoty) or cavalry regiment (chorągiew jazdy).
In the cavalry the rank continued until 1945 as a company-grade title.

Other less widespread weapons include shields, whose use disappeared at the start of the 17th century and small numbers of bows and arquebuses or muskets were also carried.
A popular weapon for the nobility were the war hammers or axes - nadziak, obuch and czekan, while the rotmistrz and other commanders would carry maces (buzdygan).
