RotorWay Company History - Evolution of a Helicopter
It is the culmination of thirty-three years of perseverance, progress in design and engineering development, resolute determination against the odds, tireless dedication, and genuine, hard work by a group of people who believe in the company's mission: to provide the rotorcraft customer worldwide with a safe, affordable way to experience their dream of helioflight.
Of all the systems available for propulsion, RotorWay chose what had proven to be one of the most efficient systems and paralleled the design also used on most light commercial helicopters at the time: a standard main rotor with a tail rotor to counteract the torque.
RotorWay International was also the first to provide a complete and detailed construction and maintenance video series for the amateur builder in order to assure the proper construction and maintenance of each customer's aircraft.

Further versions of the RotorWay Exec are still in production and remain highly popular in the experimental category aircraft market.

Most Rotorway accidents are not reported to the NTSB since many pilots are not licensed and often fly out of farms and other remote locations therefore NTSB only reflects a subset of the accidents.
Several of them and Rotorway themselves are on record as saying they assume that MOST Rotorway owners will only put a few hours per year on their helicopters and this justifies the less than aircraft quality design and testing.

Early in our research into RotorWay helicopters, we were surprised to discover that operators are required, by factory instructions, to do an extensive valve train inspection and adjustment procedure every 25 hours of operation.
We were even more surprised to discover that the RW engine uses solid lifters and lash caps in the valve train.
