Rottenrow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rottenrow is a famous street in the city of Glasgow in Scotland.
Rottenrow is best known however as the address of the Glasgow Royal Maternity Hospital (usually nicknamed by locals simply as "The Rottenrow"), founded in 1834, and became a world-renowned centre of excellence in gynecology for over 100 years.
Known as Rottenrow Gardens, the centrepiece of the park is George Wyllie's 'Monument to Maternity', a sculpture depicting a giant metal nappy (i.e.

Renwick, Depute Town Clerk, who has edited the protocols up to date, seems to doubt that this was the Town Cross, from the fact that it was not supported by historical evidence.
As to the origin or meaning of the name Rottenrow, papers innumerable on this subject have been written, and the most commonly accepted finding is that it arises from Routine Row, a mixture of French and English; but this is too far-fetched.
The word at present is mis-spelled, and it was the first part of the name (rotten) that upset theorists.

The university then plans to build new accommodation (a building) for staff and students at the site of the former Rottenrow Maternity Hospital in the city centre, this needs to get planning permission from the cooncil and will be estimated to cost £52 million.
Also, there will be the loss of the Rottenrow Gardens, a new green field site in the city centre, which is recognised by students as one of the (very few!) jewels of the John Anderson campus.
Additionally, the gardens will be replaced by a building shoe-horned into a tight space, which is very dear to Glaswegians as it is where many them came into the world and is also the site where, tragically, many new-born babies died.
