		De PKB Waddenzee, het Interprovinciaal beleidsplan Waddenzee (afgekort IBW) en het Beheersplan Waddenzee pleiten voor beperking van de schadelijke gevolgen van schelpdiervisserij op de bodemfauna en bodem morfologie.
		Volgens de Structuurnota zee- en kustvisserij (1993) zijn delen van de Waddenzee gesloten voor schelpdiervisserij, onder andere het gebied onder Rottumerplaat, ten oosten van Schiermonnikoog.
		Het Waddengebied direct ten zuiden van Schiermonnikoog wordt alleen gesloten voor schelpdiervisserij in jaren van schaarste.
