	Rough Trade Records, Tugboat Records and Rough Trade Artist Management
		was founded by Geoff Travis and born from the succesful independent London record store in 1978 with the release of Metal Urbain's "Paris Maquis" single and fast established itself as one of the great independent labels with a reputation of eclectic taste and artist-first philosophy.
		After ups and downs and a temporary shift in ownership for most of the late 90's, Rough Trade Records is again in Travis' hands and is as mercurial as ever.

		Rough Trade, which has since become the key champion of alternative music as a shop, record label and distribution network, was born.
		Rough Trade began just as punk was nurturing a climate that encouraged bands to release their own records, quickly and cheaply, and Travis saw it as his job to provide a chance for these bedroom creations to get out in the world, so he set up a label, too.
		A revived Rough Trade has won plaudits with acts such as the Strokes, Arcade Fire, the Libertines and Antony and the Johnsons in recent years.

		Before that, Rough Trade was seen as a kind of cult post-punk label, but when Geoff signed The Smiths it became a lot more mainstream and The Smiths became one of the biggest independent bands ever.
		And that carried on into the mid-80s when Geoff started Rough Trade Distribution which, to cut a long story short, was quite badly managed.
		There are other bands like The Strokes that typify Rough Trade, even though they’re very now, and you can go back to bands like The Fall because they just went in one direction and never really faltered, and that’s how we operate as a label.

		Tugboat Records offered to put out a single, so the band went to Mokinbird studios on 20th July 2004 and nailed Pick Up, Stand to Stand and Cheney in half a day.
		Rough Trade offered to release an album, so Brakes booked Metropolis studio 1 for a week in late January 2005, and put Iain Gore in control.
		The album was recorded in five days, all live on to 2" tape, and mixed in two days.

	BreakThru Radio Airing Rough Trade Records Showcase
		The "Rough Trade Records Showcase" is the latest installment in the station's impressive series of record label specialty shows.
		Rough Trade Records was set up as a part of the Rough Trade Shop in 1978 by Geoff Travis in West London, England.

		During the 1994 digital transfer and eq session at Suma, Paul Hamann discovered that the second side of the Chrysalis vinyl release was distorted.
		The recent cd reissue is identical to the DIYZ release but includes both "Arabia" and "Arabian Nights." The Rough Trade cd release still sold by Ubutique has the vocal "Arabian Nights," a slightly shorter "Young Miles" and the original release version of "Misery Goats."
		This Rough Trade lp was probably the best vinyl sound we ever had.

		The Babyshambles are not longer with their record label Rough Trade Records though reports vary as to why.
		Despite not exactly having stellar record sales the band has remained in the headlines due to the headline worthy behavior of frontman Pete Doherty including his drug addiction and on again off again relationship with supermodel Kate Moss.
		Though many journalists speculate the Doherty’s behavior or lower than expected record sales had something to do with his lack of a label Rough Trade insists that their contract simply ran out.

		Sanctuary Group, one of the world's largest independent music owners, has just issued a profits warning after discovering that Rough Trade Records, usually one of its top performers, is expected to record a financial loss this year.
		Though they did not speculate on the reasons for Rough Trade's financial losses (which are estimated to total $5.4 million), Sanctuary Group has assured its investors that it will take action.
		The company issued a statement, claiming that it is "undertaking a number of initiatives with regard to Rough Trade to improve its performance, curtail its losses and reduce Sanctuary's future funding obligations to it.

	Rough Trade Reports Disappointing Sales, Sanctuary Looks To Sell Its Stake
		Sanctuary Group announced on November 23 that Rough Trade Records, the UK home of The Strokes, Jarvis Cocker and Sufjan Stevens, will have disappointing annual sales.
		In the announcement at its website, the troubled British music company -- which houses recorded music, artist management, music publishing, music licensing and merchandising under one roof -- indicated it is considering selling its 49% stake in Rough Trade.
		Rough Trade is "likely to record a loss before tax of approximately £2.8 million" for the year ended September 30, 2006.

	Rough Trade Reaches 25 Years Old
		One of the most important cornerstones in the UK music industry reaches the ripe old age of 25 this month, and to celebrate, Rough Trade records are throwing parties and releasing some of the year’s most highly anticipated records all through October.
		However, it was interesting to see what records from the catalogue the new breed of Rough Trade bands especially were drawn to.

		Theirs is a rough pastoral sound, shot through with some wry humor that can be tongue-in-cheek.
		The next three tracks see BSP revisit their early singles, albeit in the case of "Remember Me" it is in a re-recorded version.
		In fact, "Remember Me" benefits from its new recording, as the band seems to have raised the tempo and speed with Yan's voice carrying more desperation and the rhythm section (Wood on drums and Hamilton on bass) propelling the song nicely along during its chorus.

	Libertines Appear At Rough Trade Party
		The rumours turned out to be true, the Rough Trade Records 25th Birthday Party last night (October 15) played host to the first full band London performance by the newly reformed Libertines at the Neighbourhood club in Ladbroke Grove.
		As previously reported there had been numerous rumours that the surprise guests at the show were to be The Libertines (although a Smiths reunion was also touted) and indeed the group appeared onstage at 12pm having reportedly decided to play “10 minutes before the show".
		The performance included some impromptu dancing on stage from The Mouldy Peaches’ Adam Green and during the set both frontmen Carl Barat and Pete Doherty removed their jackets leaving them both bare-chested and exposing the legends "I love Peter" and "I love Carl" scrawled in pen on their respective backs.

		'100 Days, 100 Nights' is the third full album from the soulful funksters and it was recorded in the Dap-Kings' self-built, self-operated, all analog recording studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
