 | | Roundstone Bog is some twentyfive square miles of lowland blanket bog, a mosaic of heathery knolls, quaking bog and about a hundred little lakes, between Roundstone, Ballyconneely, Clifden and Ballynahinch. |
 | | The other rare heathers of Roundstone Bog are the Dorset heath, of which half a dozen tussocks here constitute the entire Irish population, and the Mediterranian heath, which grows in the streaming valleys of Errisbeg's north-east flank, and in Mayo, and is otherwise restricted to Spain and Portugal. |
 | | Before the foundation of Clifden and of Roundstone in the early 19th century, the market and principal village was at Ballinaboy - Béal Átha na Báigh, the opening of the ford of the bay, at the west end of the Bog Road. |
