 | | Because there are but two major highways in Iceland (Route 1, the fabled "Ring Road" which circumnavigates the country, and Route 41, the two-lane highway that runs between the International Airport at Keflavik and Reykjavik), it can truly be said that in Iceland, all roads lead here. |
 | | On the left, the tallest building in the city is the controversial Hallgrimmskirkya, which dominates the city skyline, and may be an example of "old wine" (Iceland's long-standing religious traditions) in a "new bottle" (the modernistic design of the church, with its fluid lines that consciously echo the physiognomy of the countryside). |
 | | It's worth mentioning here that while Route 1 is the major highway, it does not at all resemble our superhighways in the states, nor most large highways in the western world. |
