	Rover 200 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Rover 200-series / 25 is an automobile produced by the Austin Rover Group, and latterly the Rover Group and MG Rover.
		The Rover 200 was originally a four-door sedan, based on the Honda Ballade, but in second (R8) and third (R3) generation forms, it was available in three- or five-door hatchback forms, as well as other niche versions.
		Less than a year after the Rover 25 was launched, BMW sold the Rover Group to the Phoenix consortium for a token £10.

		Rover’s intended plan to replace the Metro was initially drawn up in late 1990 — and it centred on a plan to build a Honda, only superficially modified as had been the case with the Rover 600 before it.
		Rover’s 200 BRM, launched in 1998 attempted to add some external appeal to the more than capable 200Vi model: external changes were dominated by the bright orange air intake at the front of the car, somewhat redolent of the ‘Sixties BRM Le Mans racing cars.
		Rover found that sales of the 200 began briskly, but as John Towers rather prophetically predicted, its price did prove to be a barrier to sales; most buyers failed to understand the message that Rover tried to deliver with the 200.

		Rover knew that their rivals had new cars coming, but they were still at least a year away (in the case of the Ford) and as such, in their desired ambition to sit at the top of their given market niche, the company was unchallenged.
		Rover were careful to ensure that the £400 million investment in Honda robots installed in their factory were producing the car to the same high standards as the Suzuka factory, and so used forty Honda production engineers who acted as consultants when building up to the beginning of the Rover’s production run.

		In 1984 the Honda Ballade, known as Honda Quintet in Asia and America, was introduced as Rover 200.
		The 2nd series Rover 200/400, 1990 to 1995 models, was based on the Honda Concerto and those 1.6 Rover's did use the Honda engine - some of the Rover 216GTi's got a twin cam version of the engine.

		The 2nd series Rover 200, 1990 to 1995 models, was based on the Honda Concerto and now the 1.6 Rovers did use Honda engines.
